Preserving waves while dealing with sea level rise

Erosion happens. It’s natural and it’s expected. Add rising sea levels (from whatever cause) and you have… more erosion. Our coastal borders have never been permanent, they are always shifting.

So how can we deal with beach and wave preservation? We do the opposite of building concrete sea walls (which simply accelerate erosion). We let the borders naturally grow and shrink.

How should we deal with shifting coastlines? Here is the best answer I’ve seen.

  1. John Weber,

Absolute best video on the what we should be doing to prepare for sea level rise. Very timely. Thank you Paul. I’ve thought for a while we should brand all campaigns like this “Room to Move” as in we need to give beaches room to move. Very much like the Patagonia supported “Freedom to Roam” campaign allowing wildlife to connect to wild areas through managed corridors.
