Schwarzenegger eliminates water monitoring funding

California’s Governor Schwarzenegger, at right in a patriotic moment, has just eliminated state funding for beach water quality monitoring.

I know, I know… CA budget crisis and Wall Street is in a free fall… still, why do measures that deal with our collective heath care fall completely off the table?

H.D. Palmer, deputy finance director said the Governor’s decision “in no way, shape or form should be interpreted to mean that the governor doesn’t think that water quality along the California coast isn’t important.”

Um… then how should we interpret this?

It’s important but just less than everything else?
