Singer Island breakwaters defeated in Florida

After close to 3 years worth of effort, Palm Beach County withdrew its application to build a 1.5 mile series of 11 emergent breakwaters approximately 200 feet offshore of Singer Island.

Singer Island is an important high-density nesting beach for marine turtles, including the loggerhead turtle, green turtle and the leatherback turtle.

The Nat’l Marine Fisheries Service determined that the breakwaters would be highly detrimental to these turtles.
